Petaling Street

Petaling Street. tourist attraction.

Those two words simply couldn't be put together. i mean, how could it? It is like saying Zac Efron. Cute.

Totally wrong.( sorry to those Zac Efron lovers out there.)

My very dear friend recently went to Petaling Street just for the sake of her library. By the way she explain all the details to me, it was as if she step in to FAKE -R US and somehow that store got some sort of mystical magic powers that oddly only work on westerners to make them think that Petaling Street is a place that sell real things?!

Even I myself have not even touch the ground of Petaling Street and never intend to. The closest I ever gotten to this place( I don't even know whether this street is even entitled to be given the privilege of being called a place.)is when I went to the Avril Lavigne concert which by the way, rock. I was just looking out the car window till I saw the sign, PETALING STREET. I was...I don't even know how to describe the feelings I had at that moment, all I know was I somehow couldn't take my eyes off the place. Westerners walking around totally oblivious to the fact that they are surrounded by so many fake things. Ah, if only they knew.

I guess I couldn't really blame Malaysia for having an embarrassing street like this, after all, no country is perfect. But to be known as a tourist attraction is something that should not be tolerated. I mean, if we ever want to ever achieve the wawasan 2020, we should not promote a place like this.

Think about it. Now in Malaysia, everytime someone bought something from China or Thailand, oh lets say, a Gucci handbag. The conversation will go something like this.

A: Look at this Gucci bag I just bought while I was on a holiday in China.

B: oh. (notice that the person is starting to doubt the bag)

A: Oh. Its real.

The above conversation is something what we Malaysians will say. So if we ever promote Petaling street, wouldn't the above conversation be repeated in another country better than Malaysia? But instead of mentioning Thailand it will be Malaysia instead.

Now would we want Malaysia to be known as FAKE-R-US?

Of course we would not want that.

So therefore, I urge those promoters, whoever they are to stop promoting this street and to just let us Malaysians only to know about this place.

If it is possible that is.
